John is another in the long line of outstanding Jersey City State basketball players to enter the Hall of Fame. During his three year basketball career (1971-1974) under Coach Larry Schiner, Gothic teams were 52-24 (.684) overall and 23-7 (.766) in Conference play. John led the Gothics to two straight New Jersey State College Athletic Conference championships (1973, 1974) and participation in two National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II East Regionals. He was twice named first team All-Metropolitan (New York-New Jersey), All State College Division and All NJSCAC. Perhaps John’s greatest individual accomplishment came in 1974 when he was selected as the outstanding senior basketball player in New Jersey, becoming the second college division player basketball player ever to win this prestigious award. A member of the Jersey City State College exclusive 1,000 point club, John now ranks seventh on the all time list with 1,230 points. A fine all-around athlete, John also played on the baseball team and earned honorable mention All-Conference in 1973.
