A pioneer in women’s athletics at Jersey City State College, Clara Hepburn served as faculty advisor of the Women’s Athletic Association. She was responsible for the inception of the women’s intercollegiate fencing program at the college. Miss Hepburn served JCSC with devotion and integrity for 35 years. Working as a professor, Clara taught physical education to the predominantly female student body. As faculty advisor to the Women’s Athletic Association, “Heppie”, as she was affectionately called by the students, performed the tasks of the positions of Athletic Director, Coach and Recreation Director.
